Compression is an airbag inflating around the calf and releasing. Rollers are mechanical and work the sole of the foot directly, usually in a fixed pattern with adjustable intensity. Many chairs do both; the ones worth your attention here do the roller part.
Ten seconds tells you
This is the most polarising feature in the category. Some people describe it as the best part of the chair and some cannot tolerate it at all, and nobody knows which they are until they try. That is a genuinely fast test and worth doing before you commit.
Calf reach matters too
Check that your calves sit inside the calf section rather than above it. Taller users get caught here more than anywhere else, and a chair that works everywhere else can still miss the lower leg entirely.

What is the difference between foot rollers and calf compression?
Compression uses airbags to squeeze the calf. Foot rollers are mechanical and work the sole of the foot directly. Most chairs offer compression; fewer offer rollers, and the sensation is completely different.
Are foot rollers uncomfortable?
For some people, yes, and that is not a fault in the chair. Reaction to foot rollers is unusually split. Ten seconds in a chair will tell you which camp you are in, which is why we keep them plugged in.
Can foot rollers be turned off?
On every model we carry that offers them, yes. Intensity is adjustable and the feature can be disabled if you prefer the calf work on its own.
Do foot rollers fit larger feet?
Foot wells vary by model and it is worth checking with your own feet rather than a measurement. Bring the shoes you normally wear at home and try it properly.
